ALIPHATIC ALKYL IMIDAZOLINIUM METHOSULFATE
DESCRIPTION: HOCAGEN TMD-91 is an aliphatic normal alkylimidazolinium methosulfate quaternary particularly suited for formulating fabric softeners. It is a cationic compound, giving high softening efficiency and excellent antistatic properties because of its substantive nature. Treated fabrics are soft and fluffy and have good rewettability. HOCAGEN TMD-91 gives fabric a "hand" characteristic between that of HOCAGEN 222 and HOCAGEN 442. It reduces static cling and wrinkling while making ironing easier. Since it is liquid at SOT it is easier to handle than most other concentrates.

FORMULATIONS: HOCAGEN TMD-91 based softeners for household use can be made in a wide range of concentrations. This product is hot recommended for concentration under 4 weight-percent solids unless suitable dispersion stabilizers have been included.
Refer to HOCAGEN 222 or HOCAGEN 432 for uses requiring dispersions under 4 weight-percent solids.

Charge water to a suitable mixing vessel, and add HOCAGEN TMD-91 to the water with mild agitation. Continue mixing for 15 to 30 minutes until uniform. Then add coloring, perfume or brighteners. If a reduced dispersion viscosity is desired; small amounts of sodium sulfate or sodium chloride can be added. Avoid over-use of salts to prevent "salting out" or poor stability of the dispersion
Although satisfactory dispersions can be made from cool water, optimum dispersion stability and appearance are obtained using warm water of 90-120XF. In most cases HOCAGEN TMD-91 should be warmed to liquidity, preferably 90-100XF prior to mixing. Be sure to cool the dispersions to below 95XF before bottling.
